To do

Making a list of goals is supposed to make me more likely to reach those goals and to continue working toward new ones as I recognize each of my accomplishments along the way. I think the only way that would work is if I kept the list someplace that is routinely visible. If I never go back and read my archives, then this is a pointless exercise, isn't it?

Well, pointless or no, in light of my last post, I want to look forward. That's what change is all about, right? I can't change how I've been living, but I can change what I do from here on out.

When Rich and I moved to New York, we said we'd do all kinds of things. We said we'd go to all the big cities that seemed so close: New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, and D.C. We said we'd go to a bunch of MLB games. We said we'd go to Canada. We said we'd go camping and ride our bikes. Of course, if you've been a faithful reader of this blog, you'd know that we haven't done any of those things except for visiting NYC (camping out in our back yard doesn't really count, does it?). I'm still hoping that a trip to Toronto is in the works before we move, but I kind of doubt it's going to happen.

So, in an effort to actually do the things I say I want to do (notice the "I") while in Monterey, here's a list. I'll have about two years to complete it, but I hope I can complete it within a year.

1. Attend a Unitarian Universalist church at least once (hopefully a regular thing)
2. Visit Big Sur, CA (dare I say "camping"?)
3. Visit San Francisco
4. Visit Napa Valley
5. Kayak or take some SeaDoos/Waverunners out in the Pacific
6. (re)Learn Spanish
7. Get certified to teach aerobics (I was planning to do that before I left NY, but there's enough on my plate as it is)
8. Visit Death Valley
9. Go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium
10. Go to at least one ballroom dancing class

I might add more as I think of them. I think ten's a good, round number to shoot for, though.

8. Don't pick up any rocks while in Death Valley or your parents might spank you.

San Fran & Berkeley! You have to go to Chez Panisse.

Not that you have to. But you should! :) Seriously, it's delicious.

I'd like to visit Napa and San Francisco and take a ballroom class too! If you do these things, make sure to share the pictures with us.:)

Aghh! I just went to my very first ball room dancing lesson. Just the one though. I went to a Bridal show with my engaged friend and the Arthur Murray dance studios were giving out coupons for a free lesson! So I went with her and her fiance. Maybe you could swing something like that. It was really fun. You should definitely take a dance lesson.

Ooh, I loved in Monterey Bay for a couple of months. It's really really nice. Cold though :P

I'm actually dying to go to the new California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco! It's free the first Wednesday of the month, I'm seriously considering calling in sick to work one of these days and drive up!
